The Villa Life: 7 Reasons to Villa Vacation. Whispering Waters, Discovery Bay, Jamaica

Updated: Oct 11, 2020

In so many ways, Jamaica never disappoints. Covid is a real thing happening on our island and the world over. While we can't travel as we would like, we are fortunate enough to be able to have the best staycations.

Whispering Waters, is a luxurious 7 bedroom villa in Discovery Bay and our choice of destination! Discovery Bay is a short 45 minute ride from Montego Bay Airport. For us, living in Jamaica, it was a 2 hour drive from Kingston.

We were celebrating a milestone Birthday of a friend and wanted a little luxury, a villa that was fully staffed, a chef who could cook some good food and a great location by the sea!

Whispering Waters offered all that and certainly lived up to our high expectations.

Fully staffed it was! With a staff of 8 it was an easy vacation. It may seem a bit discombobulating at first, but once you understand the roles of each, life becomes so much easier.

For those who always wanted to do a villa, but not quite sure how to navigate food and staff here is the lay of the land at this luxury villa in Jamaica.

Butler:

O Neil is the head butler and he never missed a beat. He is your point man and will be sure to sort out your preferences for drinks, meals and anything you may need.

Asst Butler:

Alton is on top of his game making

sure you are never without a drink. He will ensure you have are always taken care of...He has a wide repertoire of drinks, but a favorite was the frozen lemonade. He was also always ready to take off his shoes and roll up his pants to ensure you got your drink ocean side.

Waiter: Jayvon was a newbie, but catching on.

Housekeeper 1: Beverly was a sweet soul. In these CoVid times she was responsible for taking our temperature daily and listing it for the Jamaican Tourism agency. My favourite part was having the rooms closed up, ac turned on, beds turned down with water at our bedside. Not to mention they will do your laundry for you if you placed in the basket.

Housekeeper 2: Joy assisted Beverly and was even ready to do your laundry if you wanted!

Chef: now this is where Whispering Waters really shines. Chef is truly talented and can really cook up a wide variety of food. Truthfully when they sent us the menu I was doubtful about the Pavlova, the crepes and the lobster thermidor. But every dish he made was pretty amazing! And not to mention that he put together a mean charcuterie board.

Assistant. Chef maybe sous, maybe not?

You will want to remember them all + a night time security when you organize your tips! They recommend at least ten percent of what you paid for the villa, but trust me you will want to pay them more.

Groceries can be easily arranged by Chef. Alcohol and ice can be sorted out for you by O'Neil. We were a little disappointed that they had no ice machine, but its nothing that you need to be concerned about, they will organize it all. You really don't need to worry about a thing. Once you book they will send you a menu and you can choose your meals or let them plan for you. I will post our food and daily drink menu and lots of photos below for an easy reference. We used the WW menu as our guide but really incorporated our wants to make it our own.

So the staff at this villa is great and the chef outstanding!

What else sticks out? and

Why should we Villa (making it a verb)!

1. Fight Climate Change and stay here where the property is totally solar powered! Feels good and guilt free in the air condition at night. Not all villas obvsiously are solar powered, but rest easy, Whispering Waters has it covered.

2. Boost your health and get in the ocean. Soak up the natural benefits of the sea as you have your own little beach. It's a beautiful little cove that makes it sweet salt water pool. Great for kids.

3. Get some exercise. The Villa is fully stocked with paddle boards and kayaks for ocean fitness. But it also has a tennis court and a fully outfitted gym with a few spin bikes and a treadmill.

4. Dress down. Enjoy your home away from home and wear whatever you want whenever you want. No dress code!

5. Get fancy. Want to indulge in a dress up dinner one night or every night. The option is yours! Where would you like to dine? Seaside? Tropical Garden overlooking the beach? Poolside? Verandah? Formal Dining Room? The choice is yours. Always perfectly set with fresh flowers from the garden. Also the best way to enjoy local food.

7. Practice social distance. Avoid the hotels and people outside of your bubble! Keep it all in your circle with your own private villa.

Of MurphyCo Note:

We can't stress enough how remarkable the chef really was. If food and drink are as big priorities for you as it is for MurphyCo we would suggest bringing along the things that make it extra special for you. For the charcuterie board below we brought from home all of these components, which for outside of Kingston may not be easily sourced. If you coming from overseas you can easily bring dried fruit, nuts, crackers etc. If you really need special cheeses or meats just drop me a line and I can try and help you get it sorted out! If you not too particular leave it to chef and he will make it up for you!
